April 2026 Media List / 2026.06.11

In no particular order:

  • Album: Great Falls - "Conscription" (2026)
Their album before this, "Objects Without Pain", was one of my favourites of 2023. This is a collection of other singles and releases in and around this time, a bit faster paced than OWP and less cohesive (given what is it), but is also very good. Tight but ragged noise rock meets hardcore style thing.
  • Album: Boards of Canada - "Tomorrow's Harvest" (2013)
BOC never fully clicked with me bar "Geogaddi" until this year. After seeing a bit about the theme of the album on a video online, I went back for a revisit and it completely grabbed me, made more sense, opened up completely. Just savage electronica. Dove right back through the catalog in anticipation of the new album and this is likely my favourite of the lot.
  • Album: Slift - "Ilion" (2024)
I loved "Ummon" when it came out but again this fell under the radar at release, so I gave it another few runs. Great songs, sharp and fast but proggy and jammy. I like the approach but on revisits, the production lets it down, in particular the drum sound. It suffers from this and the quality of the music is a bit lost by it unfortunately. Still, great band.
  • Album: Nadja - "Radiance of Shadows" (2007)
I was more familiar with other Nadja releases but gave this a go after not hearing it in years. Excellent album. Big, thick slush of drone and doom, huge wall of sound, punishing and bleak but lush and atmospheric.
  • Album: James Holden - "Imagine This Is A High Dimensional Space Of All Possibilities" (2023)
Another I am already familiar with that fell into rotation. Electronic but put together very organically, good songs, easy to dip in and out of focus of but rewards an active listen as there's lots to find in it.
  • Album: Nine Inch Noize - s/t (2026)
NIN are an absolute favourite and I like the one Boys Noize album I have, after seeing the last NIN tour I knew what this was going to be and wasn't disappointed. Dancefloor Industrial. Basically remixes and alternate versions of NIN songs but they are all great, bar Closer - which is fine but is fairly true to the original and given the quality of other older remixes of the song it seems a bit pointless. Minor complaint, the rest is lethal.
  • Album: Boards of Canada - "Geogaddi" (2002)
Same again as "Tomorrow's Harvest", got tons of listens over the month, excellent album and I forgot how old it was until I had it back on, you would never guess it listening to it, if it was released now it would fit right in.
  • Manga: Fire Punch - Vol.8 (2018)
Had been putting off buying the last volume of this for no particular reason. Great finish to the series. Tatsuki Fujimoto's pre-Chainsaw Man story, darker feel and a great setting (post apocalyptic snowy wasteland, my favourite). Comes together quite miserably but ultimately ncely for the end, without getting into spoilers. I think I prefer it to CSM though bar art style and some obvious nods there is little similarity.
  • Manga: 20th Century Boys - Vol.7, 8 (2016)
Often forget about this series, then grab a book or two with another order. No reason why - it is excellent. Really well paced and well put together modern sci-fi/action story, great art, great characters, on its way to become a favourite if it keeps this pace and quality to the end.
  • Live Show: Siege of Limerick - 33rd Edtion - Dolan's, Limerick (4/4/2026)
It's the Siege. What else is there to say? It's always great. Very busy run of it this year, got in a little late but saw tons of bands all the same. Some day on here I'll do a separate write up for the run of the day on one but trying to write about it after the fact is impossible.
  • Album: Coroza - "As Within" (2024)
A highlight from the Siege and a band I know anyway, both the albums and the people in the band. Excellent modern sludge/doom, heavy on the space and post-metal elements without sacrificing any of the power of it. Great album, and always great to hear some of it live too.
  • Album: Bloody Head - " The Temple Pillars Dissolve Into The Clouds" (2021)
Last year I found 2024's "Perpetual Eden" and loved it, and recently went back to this, realising I had listened to it before on a recommendation and enjoyed it but it fell under the iceberg of music as usual. On a revisit, it is top notch, a very particular sort of English Sludge-Punk / Noise Rock styled stuff that always hits the spot. Great album.
  • Album: Oranssi Pazuzu - "Muuntautuja" (2024)
Liked this when it came out, revisiting, found it to be even better again after some time away. The songs are good at first but open up greatly on repeat listens. Layers of electronics and wild structures supporting some manner of black metal, leaning more on the psychedelic but not in a remotely nice way. Excellent release.
  • Album: Alexander Tucker - " Guild of the Asbestos Weaver" (2019)
More revisiting this month than new releases. Great album. Apparently themed off the book "Fahrenheit 451", which I've never read but probably will this year. The music on here is spacious and, at first, not complex, but the layers of sounds and instrumentation built up become more apparent on every isten. Huge, sort of droney, mostly described as electronic but that doesn't really cover it. A regular listen.
  • Live Show: Post Punk Podge / Louder Than Books / We Come In Pieces - Record Room, Limerick (17/04/2026)
Great bands, with friends in most of them, and shared members. PPP excellent no matter what format I see him play in - this was with a full band setup. High energy, savage songs. LTB another local favourite of mine and were playing their new EP with a few yet-unreleased tracks. WCIP top notch as usual, I missed them a few weeks earlier at the Siege so happy to catch a similar set here.
